Concept - Enemy Types

Size may vary


Just a basic concept of the tiers in the first enemy group. These will all be encountered in the first Chapter. Still to figure out colors and movement but it's a start.

Tactics for each are already in mind, so it's just a matter of getting them to move correctly. And maybe have their appearance hint a bit more at how they'll move/behave.

Arachnoid - West Walk

The other directions look a little odd right now. Two frames is not a lot, but I want to keep it super simple, so I'm thinking this little bounce might work. I will fiddle with it so his mandibles move a bit and maybe have his eyes blink.

It looks kind of adorable though, so I wanted to share.

Monster Concept - Arachnoid

watch out, they spit!

Wanted to work on designing some monsters for a change.
Something simple, easily recognizable on the terrain and small enough to know it's a first enemy.


I wanted something round and small, maybe kinda cute, but it needed to have that otherworldly look to it as well.


Monsters in the Oh, Brother universe are not naturally occurring, so they need to stand out. Though some have been in their areas for years, and have maybe adapted a little, they'd still stick out a bit.

This little guy will be in the first areas. When he's stationary, or when Nini gets too close, he'll roll up and pop spikes out. Otherwise he'll wander about and spit when he notices her.

There may be a way to pick him up when he's curled later, but for now it'll be painful to get too close.
 
There are a few too many spikes, and I need to put little spots on him for them to come out of, but for now this is okay.

Starfall - Wisp

Low level monster from Starfall, the Metroidvania I have planned.

This took me all night. I've never done this before, not successfully anyhow, and I think it turned out alright. With a bit more practice, I may be able to use this style for all of Starfall's graphics.
